It may be a record formed in a London bedroom, but the ideas within are bigger than the four walls that originally housed them. Wild Troutflies continues the off-beat experimentation that has guided Pugh and Godivala throughout their musical journey but now finds them in a place to truly push on. Recorded in only a few days at Godivala's flat, this is a record that is bristling with constant new ideas across its 37-minute runtime. Throughout Wild Troutflies moments are relived, misremembered and revived - a consequence of the often sleep deprived state in which many of the songs were written. As such, it is a journal entry of sorts with the most unreliable of narrators at its helm; a captivating and compelling collection of vignettes. Wild Troutflies is the moment between the light going off and the start of a dream. It is waking up sweating with your walls covered in tinsel and fairy lights. It's if Bill Callahan never left Knaresborough, or Smog. It is taking a delirious walk down an anti-jangle road, where toy instruments have shootouts from the corners of your mind as a guitar watches on. Speaking on the record, Reuben says: "This album is a collection of songs that act as a placeholder for the year I've had. I was working a job that meant I had to be up at 6 AM, often with no sleep, so Wild Troutflies is a reflection of that. It's all about working, being tired and missing people". Wild Troutflies follows 2025's debut The Dancing Years. In the intervening months, the band have been, as they always are, prolific - playing wherever they can, with the ideas seemingly never not flowing. Wild Troutflies is the duo trying to capture as many of those ideas, those moments, as possible. Having spent the time sharing stages with everyone from American home recording pioneer Linda Smith to fellow experimental risers Glasshouse Red Spider Mite, and with upcoming shows alongside Nina Winder-Lind and Keg, Troutflies have had the best of a DIY education. Now is the time for them to show what they've learned, to let those ideas truly come to life, to return home and take a walk down those dreamlike roads. With Wild Troutflies they've certainly delivered on that promise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU59lNknc0o "One of the country's most alluring prospects"So Young "Occupying a whimsical corner of DIY outsider pop"TNAM "Literate, curious...and incredibly engaging"The Indie Scene
