The national museum of railways, in York, part of the Science Museum Group. Its huge halls hold historic locomotives, royal carriages and everyday railway objects that show how trains shaped the country. Visitors can walk beneath engines and see some of the most famous ones, including Mallard, the fastest steam locomotive.
