The art and antiquities museum of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1816 with a bequest from Viscount Fitzwilliam. Its grand neoclassical building holds collections from ancient Egypt and Greece to European paintings, manuscripts, coins and ceramics. It is a quieter alternative to the big London museums and well suited to a visit between college tours.
