A huge medieval castle above the White Cliffs, long called the Key to England because of its position facing France. It has a great tower built for Henry the Second, a Roman lighthouse and a network of tunnels used in the Second World War, including during the planning of the Dunkirk evacuation. There is plenty to see in a long day.
