Disney's story of the young lion Simba, told with some of the most inventive puppetry and mask work on any stage. Director Julie Taymor's costumes let the performers and the animals share the stage at once. The songs by Elton John and Tim Rice sit alongside African-inspired music and choral singing. It opened in London in 1999 and is a good first West End show for families.
