Peter Shaffer's play about the rivalry between the composer Antonio Salieri and the young Mozart in eighteenth-century Vienna. Salieri, jealous of Mozart's gift, narrates the story of his own scheming. It is partly invented history but powerful drama, filled with Mozart's music, and it was adapted into an Oscar-winning film.
