DEPARTURE LOUNGE

Departure Lounge return to Brighton, one of their spiritual homes (the other is Nashville) for a special headline show at The Rose Hill on Saturday 12th December. They'll be showing off tracks from their forthcoming album, Field Conditions and upgraded versions of old favourites, as well as songs from 2021's Transmeridian, including the single, Australia, which featured R.E.M. 's Peter Buck on guitar. The four-piece recording line-up of Chris Anderson (aka Crayola Lectern), Simon Edwards, Lindsay Jamieson and Tim Keegan will be augmented by Tim's son Quincy. "These four friends from different musical backgrounds came together originally with the stated aim of 'creating music to soothe the troubled soul'. Citing influences including Robert Wyatt, Nick Drake, Talk Talk, Lou Reed, Arvo Pärt and Cocteau Twins, the band's diverse tastes are reflected in the music they create. Departure Lounge could be said to embody a lost age of reflective, experimental pop music which came to the fore at the turn of the millennium with The Beta Band, Tunng, Boards Of Canada and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci." (Matt Lockett, Violette Records) SUPPORT: Maria Reis: Maria Reis is recognised as one of the voices of the new generation of independent rock. For fans of Ana Lua Caiano, Julie Byrne and Cat Power. Maria is undergoing an accelerated transformation and her music seems to celebrate this change in real time, between the irreverence of the discoveries and heartbreaks of youth and the serenity and lucidity of an adult life forced by responsibilities.
